Spotted this tree growing on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.

It is a beautiful tree, this is the largest one I have seen. I can see why they call it lily-of-the-valley tree.

they are very uncommon in Michigan too. They will grow and flower here but it is pushing it in terms of cold hardiness. If you ever get a chance to try one, you won't be disappointed and they don't get very large either. They're actually in the same family as rhododendron.

i would never have guessed it was rhododendron family ~ if i had a bigger garden i would certainly try one.
