Is it an oriental poppy julie? i have an orange one but not tall and some1s just sent me pattys plum but im not sure on the height that will get to x

I think it is an oriental. Possibly some free seed that took a few years to produce flowers...but boy did it rise to the occasion this year!

I am with "Bjs" it is looks huge! It is just a close up picture? How big is it? Does it need staking?

Hi there J. It is a close up but the flower was huge and took me by surprise! It did need staking, fingers crossed I have another this year :-)
