Studied Latin 1st and 2nd year in high school Steve - not through choice but my primary school teacher considered me intelligent enough and of course that was all mum needed to hear.
I hated every single minute of it and never did become the lawyer mum hoped me to be!

Technically Cowslips are Primula veris and Oxlips are Primula elatior Steve but I think common names are interchangeable depending on where you live, as you say.
I was curious so looked up what the difference is and apparently it's the leaves and if it smells of apricots it's cowslip, if not it's oxlip.
If I get down there to sniff, I'm not likely to get back up ;)
