I blanketed the roadside nature strip with a vividly beautiful display of ranunculus flowers last spring 2009, and the local council didn't harass me about growing flowers on the nature strip. Apparently residents are not supposed to do this here in Dingley, Victoria, Australia, but local residents assure me there will be howls of protest from all the local residents if the city council forbids me from growing flowers along the roadside. I must say though, they sure stopped some of the traffic. People would pull over, or cruise past very slowly looking at the display!

Well you're so lucky the council did nothing about it ... up here we have to get council permission to do something like this. One poor old lady had totally converted her nature strip to a beautiful native tree oasis without council permission and when some driver complained they couldn't see well when backing out their driveway .. the council came and ripped it all out!
