This African Tulip tree is 6 or 7 block from where I live in San Diego, CA. It's almost in full bloom. Photo taken April 17, 2015.

I have seen African tulip trees in flower every month of the year here in San Diego. The majority of trees flower from April - November. I know it's a long time. It just depends on the tree and the location.

Where we live in Mexico (during the winter) African Tulip Trees bloom in November and are mainly finished by March.

I've seen the large trees in full bloom in January by the freeway junction of interstate 8 and interstate 5 (there's several tall trees along the freeway in this area). It's close to downtown San Diego. I can never get photos because it would be just too dangerous. Like I said: I have seen African Tulip trees in full bloom every month of the year here in San Diego. I can't figure them out...it's a mystery to me. My little tree has been blooming just over two years straight. It's never done this before. Typically, my tree goes semi-dormant from around Christmas to early to mid-March...then starts flowering in early April through early December.
In many monsoonal tropical/subtropical climates they will bloom during the dry season; however, in Hawaii they seem to naturalize on the wet side of the Islands. They can bloom almost all year. I know in Hilo, HI they go through their molting period in spring for about 6 weeks.
