Magnolia arent keen on being mooved so the bigger the root ball the better. It will probably drop leaves and look wilted and sulk for a few weeks or poss longer. Feed and keep it well watered to help it settle in. I moved one a few years back- a similar height and the following spring the new leaves werent as big as the years before and it took a long time to recover

The Autumn would be the best time to move it. As we have said many times, prepare a hole first to receive it, with plenty of compost, to plant it. 2 or 3 weeks before lifting the magnolia, cut a ring round it at the length of the root run. Make the ground wet at the same time. Lifting can then take place by digging a trench round the shrub, have a polytarp to work under it. It is best to have 4 people lifting it out of the hole, one on each corner, take to the other hole, replant, firm in with your feet. Water well and look for the flowers in early spring.
