some one told me that it's hard to grow things in soil that has hosted raspberry canes is this true?

some one told me that raspberry canes do something to soil which make it hard to grow other things in the some plot of land is this true and if so how do i combat the problem ?

they will deplete nutrients but dig in well rotted manure/compost etc and the soil will be fine.

That's not been my experience - the biggest problem has been eradicating the raspberry canes themselves - they're still popping up where they shouldn't, in amongst the shrubs.
