how best to repair a ditch

I have a ditch where the soil has run off leaving a metre wide gap. The ditch is approx 2 metres deep. How can I repair this without the soil washing away?

Not sure I understand what you mean; do you mean there is a hole in the side of the ditch? Or that the sides are collapsing into it? How about pinning some chicken wire or similar into the ground and filling around it with soil and pebbles. Once weeds and grass start to grow it should be anchored down more. If you mean a hole, what we do by the river side here which is constantly collapsing due to coypu damage, is to fill the hole in with large stones and then earth.
