why do some flowers and leaves look burnt

after the very heavy rain some flowers and leaves look as though the have been burnt what is the cause

Yep, the sun has come out after a heavy downpour and sunlight on wet leaves burns the leaves, whether you put it there or nature put it there. They'll be okay, it won't kill them.

If this was while the weather was very hot, and the sun intense, it could simply be sun scorch on the foliage and flowers. (Though this is more likely when you water during bright hot sunshine.)
The plants should soon grow away from this though.
