My palm is yellow

No I don't have a nasty disease!
My palm tree has started going yellow and is growing a new shoot at the bottom. Is the new shoot killing it?

Thanks for your reply :-)
Yes the shoot is a new palm from the same root right next to the base. The palm is in the ground and gets plenty of sun and water (Northern Ireland weather) the only thing that doesn't look so good is the trunk just below the leaves. I can't see any fungus or infestation it just looks dark in between the leaves.. almost like it has got soil between the leaves, if that makes sense. The palm was here when I moved in so is about 7 or 8.

No chance of a photo I suppose? and what you're describing near the base of the trunk, could that just be the normal fibrous matter palms develop around their trunks, or is it something different? If it is, see if its soft, can you push something into it? In case its some kind of rot?

I doubt its killing it - is it the palm that's growing though, as a new shoot? I have seen this before when the original palm is ready to keel over, or isn't well - it shoots out a new one from the same roots, usually right next to the trunk of the existing one. Is your plant in a pot or in the ground, has it been kept watered, does it get enough sun, any evidence of infestation or fungus?
