why have flower buds fallen off my lilies in the garden?

buds were looking nice and fat....then fell off!!!

are they proper lilies or day lilies [hemerocallis]? the day lilies may have had fat buds due to gall midge. they would drop off. though new buds will form. if they are proper lilies then i agree with spritz.
