dog rose

I have a few sprigs of dog rose approx 9" long and I also have some rooting powder. Can anyone tell me exactly what to do to root these twigs for planting to grow up my garden walls?

Plant them firmly about 4-6" deep in standard soil. keep well watered and when established [due to obvious new growth] transplant to final positions. or plant against walls but do keep an eye on the watering.
