It may be, one thing can cause reactions to one person but not others.
The underside of the leaves are slightly powdery/downy and this can cause irritaion and rashes as they are tiny hairs, i suffer from it too.. inc some Viburnums and the dust from ivy

Hydrocortyzone cream i was told by my doctor would reduce redness and calamine solution will help with the itch. It would be best to ask at pharmacy and show problems before buying these creams!

I just googled the question on Ask Jeeves & there's lots of people's views on getting a rash from handling pyracanthus & rhododendrons, azaleas etc too if that's any help...you're question even came up! :0)

Weird how we're all different - I have no trouble with pyracantha, but skin contact with conifers brings me up in a red bumpy, sore rash.

How do I say thanks?
