Do I have to remove the leaves on my Acanthus Mollis?

My acanthus mollis is growing well and I know I have to remove dead flower spikes but I'm not sure what to do with the leaves.

mine has never totally disappeared. it is just getting bigger and bigger. I have to keep removing them to prevent neighbours getting swamped. a case of too closely planted.

I do have to cut a few off at this time of year! They get longer and longer - and flop even though the plant is supported!
