some of my Ailsa Craig onions(grown this year from seed) have gone to seed (bolted) could this be due to over feeding, or some other reason. Thank you.

Onions and things like onions which are normally biennial (form the bulb one year and seeds the next) go up to seed when they are put under stress. Usually this is going very dry followed by a wet period. Can also be caused by damage to the root system when transplanting for example.
