Will I get beans on my runner beans?

I've got no beans set from the flowers on my runner beans - either the birds have eaten them or the wind has blown them off. Shall I pull out the plants? Or will I get more flowers? It's not much point having just leaves.

Hi,
How long has it been since you noticed the flowers had gone? Have you pinched out the growing tip, it might help if you haven't. The wind won't have helped.

you will get a sucession of flowers throughout the session. the birds will lose interest and as long as they keep well watered you will get beans through August/september.

I got mine in late and they have plenty of flowers right now but no beans as yet. Small birds sometimes entertain themselves by pulling off the flowers - you could try hanging reflective materials such as CDs around them to scare off the birds, or try putting a bit of fake fur stuck in them somewhere as the birds see it and think it's a small preditor like a stoat ;-)

Our runner beans have just started setting beans, they are still small - no more than an inch in length but they have until September to get to a decent size.

I've not noticed flowers for quite some time. I've just been to look now and I've got no flowers and no little beans coming. I've pinched out the tops as they get to the top of the canes.
Thankyou to everyone for your ideas and comments - I've got the cd discs hanging already & they dont scare the birds!! I'll try the 'animal hair' as suggested and see what happens.
Thanks for the courgette comments too.
I've only just found this site this morning, so trying to find my way around. It's good isnt it:)
