Maybe I should have asked this before I did it! But ...

... I've given two small hypericums a haircut. They are in my rockery and have all but finished flowering, with no other discernible buds. The dead heads looked awful, so I have trimmed everything off - see the before (left) and after (right) photos below of one of them. Please someone tell me I've done the right thing!

I would normally shear them over to get rid of the spent flowerheads - should be fine and it looks so much better!

Thank goodness for that, thanks Bamboo! They do look a lot better don't they?

Thanks for the reminder Jan, mine need their annual haircut too.

Definitely need to remove the seed heads or you end up with millions of the dratted things all over the garden.

Thank you all for your responses. I was worried that I seemed to be doing more than just deadheading, but it just seemed the right thing to do. Thanks for the reassurances.
