Looks like a spurge or euphorbia to me

Probably Euphorbia amygdaloides (known as wood spurge) or possibly sun spurge, but need to see the whole plant for proper ID. Basically, its a Euphorbia!

Usernut I have to hang my head and say I think you are right...

Top of the class, Usernut.....I have been following your logic and am impressed! Wonder how it got into your garden though! Have you had a bouquet of rather exotic flowers given to you at some point - as I believe it is used as a filler/foil by florists...and maybe the seeds fell out on the way to the compost heap!!! Just a thought - but it grows like a weed in the USA as you will have read by now - but is frost tender if you want to keep any.

it does say it looks like an airy euphorbia and I thought it could be a member of that species but the leaves look different, so search on the leaves and spotted thoroughwax or hare's ear as it,s also known.

thank's Alzheimer, I grew it individually from a wildflower seed mix, I like to see what I get and try to find out what it is.
it,s like a lucky dip..lol

Oh dear - and there was I thinking you were getting exotic bouquets!! Never mind - how exciting to track down what is in the wild flower mix. I get some weird things popping up under my bird feeders...heaven knows what they put in these seed mixes but one year I had a very pretty ferny looking plant growing abundantly around ...until a grandson - home from Uni - visited and hooted with laughter...at which point it dawned on me what it probably was and I uprooted and incinerated it all smartly!!!! LOL

Me too Alzheimer - they must put hemp seeds in the mixes at times - I had a fantastic sativa plant growing in a pot with bamboo - I didn't notice it when it was small, and I passed the bamboo onto a neighbour for him to plant in his garden - he called me in 2 months later to show me how well the "bamboo" was growing. Not sure they're the actual marijuana plant as such though, the leaves were slightly different ;-)

well done for growing it as my field guide says it is 'becoming rare'. its an umbellifer and when you look closley you can see the typical features.
