The young leaves on my fatsia Japonica are curling and appear to being eaten

Have checked for pests but no obvious signs. Once new leaves have been attacked the younger leaves are then being eaten and take on a lace effect.

Thanks, Bamboo. Have been using slug pellets for some time as also suspected that was the problem but to no avail. If anything it is now worse!

There must be some kind of caterpillar on it then, probably the same colour as the leaves, that's the only other thing I can think of that causes this kind of damage.

Sounds like slug and snail damage - try using slug pellets.
