Our Photinia is 7 or 8 years old, in semi-shade, and quite bushy: 6ft tall and nearly 3ft wide. I feel I should cut it back, but should I wait until the Spring? Many thanks.

Yes, wait till spring when growth begins. If you want the red leaves, just wait a bit longer, enjoy them for a couple of weeks, then cut the whole thing back. You'll get another flush of red as the plant recovers and grows again.
