How to protect my winter pots?

I've planted pansys and will be planting violas as well, all in pots (some will have tulip bulbs in the bottom as well). What do I need to do to try and protect them from slugs, snails and the like? Thanks :-)

You shouldn't have any problems in the cold weather. Slugs bury themselves and snails hibernate in little groups. To cover the period before they do, just put some pellets in the pots.

Just be aware that especially if the pots are small frost going throughthe sides can damage the roots

Steragram - thanks, will pop to the garden centre and get some. :-)
Pamg - oh right, well the two pots I'm doing are quite big ones, but I'm also doing some hanging baskets, they are wicker baskets with a plastic lining - would the frost affect them? Thanks for your help. :-)
