What to do with crocosmia leaves after flowering?

They are starting to look a bit tatty but I'm worried I'll cause problems if I cut them back. I've always just left them before.

I've just cut all mine down to about 2 inches - they flowered over six weeks ago- if its six weeks since yours flowered, you can cut them down if you want.
