what plants do you suggest for a shady border, that wont angle out to the sun much? It measures approx 8ft long by 2ft wide.

If its that shady I'm assuming it's also a bit damp, at least I hope it is! Damp shade is much easier to plant than dry shade, so if it isn't any chance you can water it when it needs it?
Assuming you can, here's some suggestions:
Astilbe, Brunnera "Jack Frost", Geranium macrorrhizum, Campanula muralis, Ajuga reptans, Lamium 'White Nancy', hardy Fuchsia such as Mrs. Popple, Tom Thumb, etc., Primulas, Lysimachia, Aquilegia, Heucheras (all leaf colours, though 'Key Lime Pie' does seem to be better with a bit of sun), Troillius. Hope you've got something to look them up in - if not, you'll have to rely on google or the garden centre.
