Why did my Lily of the valley not flower this year?

There are 2 lots of them, both in fairly shady situations and last year they flowered nicely. Our soil is rather sandy but has had some organic material added, but not a lot.

Might be because we had a drier spring this year, and as you've got light soil, they'd not had enough water.
