What plants for a Conservatory??

Can anyone advise on what sort of plants I should grow in my south-facing conservatory. I would really like a plant with a good scent - something that gets quite tall to fill a corner. Thanks for your help

Amblealice, thanks so much for your reply. I have underfloor heating, which cant be good for plants. Last year my jasmine went brown and crispy and I dont know if it was because of the dry atmosphere or because I over-watered it (probably both). I'm not keen on palms etc. I think I'll try your suggestion of a hibiscus. Thanks again

Glad to be of help. I have underfloor heating too and find it quite useful for those more tender plants.(when on a lowish setting)..particularly when it is in the very cold months. I find the jasmine does better outside. I had one tucked in a corner all winter and it came through pretty well.

I ended up cutting down my jasmine and planting it outside and its done really well again - sooo, I'm tempted to dig it up and put it in a pot in my hall this time - the smell is fabulous when it blooms - perfumes the entire house. Just one more question - is there a particular hibiscus I should be looking for?

Great thanks again - when i get my next paycheque I'm off to the GC. The pots are sooo expensive, never mind the plants. Thanks again.

Hi Spindle. My conservatory is south facing too....and boy...doesn't it get hot (when the sun is shining)....I've tried quite a few different plants in mine. Assuming you have blinds fitted...else plants burn to a crisp! and some sort of heating over winter. Although not scented I have sucessfully grown a Hibiscus...they like the heat. I have a Mauranda climbing up a small trellis on one of the walls, thats not scented either. I have a Hoya growing up a frame....think that is scented!. My orchids do quite well in there too. I ha ve found from experience that foliage plants don't do well....the atmosphere gets too dry and the leaves go brown at the edges. Hope this gives you a few ideas....Good luck!
