what should I do with this poppy?

I bought this poppy (fruit punch) on ebay, actually bought, 3 but this is sole survivor. i brought it in to sit on my window sill, but don't know what to do next and I would like it to live! I think the others were either eaten by slugs or snails or drowned in our english summer:-(

Thanks Spritz, it's supposed to be an oriental poppy. I was very disappointed when they arrived, little more than seedlings while the other plants in the order were, as promised, quite mature. Unfortunately I don't have a coldframe or greenhouse, hence the window sill. I do have a garage which is quite light, would that be better? Should I keep it on the dry side?

I think in that case it would be better planted...with suitable protection! What a shame about the others...and the size, as well. I reckon you should complain to the seller!

As it dies down for the winter would it not be better off in a pot in the garage just kept slightly moist? - it wouldn't need any light through the winter. When you plant it use a copper ring round it. If you do lose it lots of people/companies sell the seed for this which I imagine is what your seller started with.

I'd still complain about the size of the plants, if you were misled!

Funnily enough i planted a batch of poppy seed today (fruit punch)..in a seed-tray with a lid...I thought i might keep them in my sun-room, which is unheated at the minute...am i doing the right thing???

That sounds fine...as long as it doesn't get hot (when/if) the sun shines!!

Thanks all, I've had it months now Spritz so a bit late to complain. I did complain gently about the first 3 sent which were really tiny seedlings and died in days. I was then sent another 3 a little larger. As far as I can tell there seems to be a good root system so I'll nurture it a little longer and try it in the garage over winter as I don't have any protection for it. I haven't grown anything from seed for many years except for the odd hardy annual which I can sew where it flowers. I'll have to start again, buy some seed trays etc. ? I did buy some non toxic (non working) substance this year with which you made a circle round a plant to keep cute little slimies away. perhaps if I'd renewed it every day.... .

Good luck with your survivor...I hope to see a photo of it in bloom next year!! :-)

Is it a perennial?? If so, it won't like it too warm - and would prefer to be outside in the soil...you'll have to protect it from the slimy horrors, though...have you got a coldframe or a cool greenhouse to grow it on a bit so that it's stronger before you plant it??
