ID. Please. I have this tree that has popped up in two places in my garden, I cut it down each year, does anyone recognize the leaf?

It looks similar to an Alder tree we have,as we get saplings from it nearby...not certain really, but worth a guess...probably something totally different ! Lol.

Think it might be Sycamore. Gets huge. I have one at the back of my place and the seeds get everywhere. I am forever pulling them out.

On second thoughts, could it be Bramble leaves? just looking at the reddish stem, but can't see if it is prickly or not...

Certainly not either Sycamore or Bramble or Ash. So only a few thousand other choices.

My first thought had been ash, but no, it isn't. It looks as if it wants to be a scrambling plant.

Mmmm! None of the above, it doesn't scramble Bulbaholic, I have seen a tree when I was out somewhere and it was ever so big but cant remember where I saw it, lets hope someone will be able to ID it for me, fingers crossed LOL :o))

I get these in my garden and always pull them out, I always assumed it is an Ash? Oh well!

It looks like an ash seedling to me.

Yes, I thought it was Ash...watch out for Chalara disease!!

I was reading a bit more about this disease in the paper this weekend, and it said to remember to clean boots and shoes ,after walking in the woods,to help stop it spreading..Looks like it's going to be a big problem..

Whatever it is I would pull it out as it doesn't look like something you want in the garden, especially as it's put itself there. My first thought was ash too, but not quite happy about that.

I can't pull it out as it is growing close to my Tree Peony, I have a gardener helping me now so I will get him to kill it off somehow and the other one is in the middle of a Pieris japonica so thats a problem too so at the moment I just have to cut them down.
Thank You All so much for your help in ID'ing this for me.

When all the leaves have dropped off, if next years buds are black, then it is definitely ash, Derek.

Oh! Right Derekm, I'll look at the buds next year and see if they are black :o))

Hi ladyessex, you don't have to wait until next year, if you look at the end of the shoots, you will see a black bud, it goes to a point at the end, and is quite hard, if this is the case, then it's ash, Derek.

Thanks Derek.
I'll have a look on Thursday morning, mind you I have cut it right down so may not see any buds :0)
