I live in Sussex we had a early wet summer and then it has dried out and we have had hardly any rain for over a month, but my tomatoes all suffered from wilt( brownand curled up leaves)now the leaves of my courgettes, acer tips and other plants have gone grey/whiteish and then go brown and drop off- what is it and how do I treat? Preferbly without chemicals

I'm suffering the same (well not personally) with mildew and I live in West Sussex. Have you noticed it on all the oak trees as well. I think it's due to not enough moisture in the soil and there isn't a lot you can do about it other than get rid of the affected leaves.

Thanks for replies, just as I suspected - mildew - hoped it was nothing worse. I thought it might have had something to do with us having a new rockery and patio built this year and the garden getting a little neglected.... I have oak trees behind me and they show some signs but mostly a lot of my flowers/plants that seem to be suffering as well as the veggies.
Fingers crossed for a better year in 2010!

I'd lay in some fungicide for treating it with, even if you don't use it till next year - I've just sprayed my Verbenas because they're covered in mildew too.

It could be mildew, but it could also be blight of some kind, about which I know nothing, not being a veggie person. I'm sure the others will answer at some point.
