what are the black flies on my sqaush leaves?

There are clouds of small black flies on my sqaush leaves but not blackfly as on braodbeans etc. Will they cause problems or can ignore htem?

Are they eating the leaves? It's a bit late for squashes now so I wouldn't worry too much as they will be dying off soon. They could be feeding on dead vegetation ( similar to the flies you get in the compost heap sometimes). And anyway, they will be a food source for some predator!
