I have an established corkscrew hazel approx. 5ft high in an open garden positionthat I would like to move it to a large container so as to enjoy it more.

If you would hate to lose it, leave it where it is - you don't say how long its been in situ, but you do say it is "established". If it's been in longer than, say, 3 years, the root spread could be far and wide - even if you do get it out successfully, you'll have to cramp the longer roots in order to fit them in a pot, and the plant will not respond well to that. These plants don't grow too well in containers after 3 years anyway, the pot cramps their style. If you want one nearer the house, buy another small one and keep it in a pot for a few years, till it needs planting out.

I completely agree with Bamboo - leave your Corylus where it is in the ground and buy a small one for a pot if you want to see it more. Even then as Bamboo said a couple of years down the line and it will need to go into the ground.
