Tall Phlox has mold

I am having a problem with my tall phlox, by the end of the growing season last year, my phlox had quite a bit of mold on it. As it is coming up again this year, it is showing signs of the same issues, how do I take care of this without getting rid of the whole plant??

I suspect what you may have is mildew due to the plant being dry at the roots. Keep it well watered during dry spells and give it a good mulch of garden compost (or similar water-retaining material) each spring to help improve the soil's water-holding capabilities
