I've recently bought this shrub for it's autumn colour, it's leaves are turning red and falling. I looked it up and apparently it's evergreen ?? can anyone clear it up for me?

Thanks Fractal, In the site I googled it said it's a Photinia (Red Robin) but I have one of those and it's nothing like it. I'm worried about the leaves falling off.

I'm sure that we had a discussion about this plant before - and it was Sid who had it in her garden.
I wonder if she could help?

I believe Stransvaesia has been renamed Photinia davidiana, which might explain the confusion. It is semi evergreen, unlike Photinia fraserii, which is probably why you're losing some of the leaves, so don't worry about it, that's quite normal.

That's very like the discussion we had before - I have two Photinia davidiana 'Palette' shrubs. They have very distinctive cream, pink and green variegated leaves. They are evergreen here, as well. Both of them are producing berries at the moment.
They look nothing like your shrub at all!
However, I do recall that Sid's shrub WAS like yours!

Looks like Stransveasia davidii 'Pallette'. I think I recall that the only difference between the two genera is that Stransvaesia fruits split apart to reveal the seeds, whereas Photinia are more fleshy and remain intact. A very tenuous separation if that is really all it is?
