I've been given some small fushias that are from cuttings I think - they are in flower and look lovely but I don't know whether to put them in to the garden of if I need to keep them in the greenhouse over the winter...any advice welcome before I kill them! Thank you

Rufus67 you need to ask your kind friend whether they are hardy. If so then they can be planted out in a sheltered spot with a mulch to protect the new little roots. If not hardy they need to be kept completely frost free I don't know any more about tender ones I'm afraid.

I'd keep them in the greenhouse, as they're small, hardy or not.

There is a really good blog at the moment from Crazydi on putting Fuschias to bed for winter.

Found it - thanks Mad. Think I will put them in the greenhouse as they're only babies We have two guinea pigs who keep me company while I'm gardening and the rest of the family are at school/work - it's talk to them or the plants!

I agree with Bamboo. To ensure your hardy fuchsias overwinter well they need to be in the ground before the end of July. Obviously in the case of "babies" they need a winter under cover to establish themselves before planting out next year.

What are your Guinea pigs names Rufus? We used to have them when our children were small and as they were Albert and Lily they proved valuable aids in our children's introduction to sex education and reproduction! Very loveable little animals and the babies are born fully active and just miniature guinea pigs aren't they?

Hi Mad. They're called Sid and Barney - one's a white fluffy thing and the other is brown like my picture. We inherited them from a friend so I've only ever seen them fully grown, My daughter loves playing hairdresser with Sid, she gives him a trim and a good brush. When it stops raining I'll take a photo. No gardening today.

Like their names. I expect Sid enjoys all the attention but I hope your little girl doesn't give him a no.1 !

As you don't know whether they are hardy, you could leave them in your GH over winter. I would cut off the flowers too.
