I have a lovely big woodland looking fern in my garden that has been lush all summer but now is looking brownish and bedraggled. should I be cutting it back or leave it for a bit longer to suck the nutrients back into it's roots for next years growth? When should you cut ferns back? Thank you

You don't, usually, you just wait for the fronds to die back and then remove them.

If you live in an area that is very frosty it can help to bend the dead fronds over next years noses on the fern. Remove them at the end of the winter for tidieness.

you can just leave them thats personal choice.nothing pulls them of in the wild and as bulb sais they offer protection through the winter.
