the answer is: depends what you want to take cuttings of. many plants have to be done at different times. what did you have in mind?

My RHS book says to take semi-ripe cuttings in the summer. So it's a bit late for this year.

hard wood cuttings now according to the latest RHS magazine. and if you have a propagator some soft stem cuttings like penstemons/salvias.
