I have been unable to get any bulb fibre at all locally. Our garden centres are all sold out and say that they cannot get any more stock. Is there anything I could add to compost to make it more suitable for bulbs in pots without drainage holes? I have some paperwhites and hyacinths I have to plant for the house.thanks Kerri

Yes, I am correct. Now you just have to find the horti charcoal and the oyster shell. Seems like another hurdle....sorry.

I watched a garden centre gardener (small private nursery/gc) plant up bulbs for Christmas using General Purpose Compost. I asked why she was not using bulb fibre and the answer was there will be enough feeding in the GPC to last for the few short months this bulb is in the pot. Next year the bulb will likely be planted in the garden and it will flower again there.

You will need to add horticultural charcoal to normal multi purpose compost and something with lime in it also. I recall crushed oyster shell being used in some brands of bulb fibre?
I'll check to make sure.
