My mum has managed to keep it going outside in Northumberland over winter here in the north east of England though they didn't look very happy by spring.

Depends where in Europe of course as it's quite big! Coastal sites should be fine and in the south but if you are in the centre of the continental land mass......take cuttings and overwinter indoors!
