how to get rid of snags or little fly insects from herbs plants in my kitchen? Please help! I am first timer. Thanks

I am guessing that they are Sciarid flies? The compost is possibly too wet and they can breed in the scummy stuff (sorry, thats not a technical word for that!) on the surface of the compost.
If you put a layer of grit over the surface, this may help. Also, try and use terracotta pots as these breathe.
