It seems to be one of those plants that thrives if you are lucky enough to put it in just the right spot, but try it next door in a similar spot and it fails...especially on clay...booo!

I had another one, and it just didn't thrive at all! I moved it, still no joy. It died. Say no more! :-(((((

Looking at where you are in the country, I would suggest waiting until spring. This shrub hates the wet and cold - it thrives in the sun. It is not reliably hardy in frost-prone areas, either. If you have it in a pot, make sure you place it in a sheltered position against the house wall or in a cold frame, and bubble-wrap the pot to protect the roots from freezing.
