We have a large lawn, around half an acre and had it professionally scarified in November, so it's looking quite forlorn now. Should we now apply some kind of top dressing or should we wait for the Spring and should the dressing be anything special, bearing in mind the potentially large cost of covering half an acre.

I am scarifying on monday and will apply a light dressing of Growmore 777. The main idea being here in Surrey and we have mild winters and our lawns are poor after the dry summer. In a few weeks the lawn will look much greener. I also hope we get snow which will also help.
