We have just cut down a burberry in our back garden. The inside of all the branches and roots were bright yellow. Whilst trimming surrounding shrubs these too were showing bright yellow.

many winter wood is yellower than in the summer and as owdboggy says standard for the burberry.

As the others say, normal for burberry (Berberis) varieties. The roots are bright yellow too...
