why has my hydrangea leaves turned yellow

mine are dying back now ,but I will not tutch them untill I see new groth ,as the flowere give a bit of frost protection, my soil is a bit bland so I stick a bit or rusty mettal down to the roots this keeps them a lovly blue, and by the way I love them,

Most hydrangeas are deciduous - deadhead and prune back to new growth in spring, once you can see it starting.

It's the end of the season. I personally don't like them, but here in the Azores farmers plant them along the stone walls to keep the cows back. At this time of year they are all brown and next month the road crews will be out pruning everything back.
