Can anyone name this plant. It was growing in Warwick castle glasshouse and, as any good gardener would, i nicked a cutting. I know it's not begonia rex does anyone have any ideas?

Ah, it's you -you're the person who asked about GoY on Gardener's Click! My ID is different on here, obviously.
This might be a very sick specimen of Begonia masoniana - the leaves are the right shape, but there's no evidence of the darker coloration which should be present. On the other hand, as this specimen is obviously rather unwell, it's hard to say - if it is, it needs temperatures above 55F/13C and is sensitive to overwatering, in other words, its difficult to keep.

Tut, tut!! You really shouldn't pinch cuttings from gardens without permission! Think how decimated everywhere would be if all gardeners did this. Also, most of the nicked bits probably die in handbags etc. Plus, it is stealing. Sorry to sound so off-ish, but working in a National Trust garden, I know how hard all the staff and volunteers work to put on a display for EVERYONE to enjoy. Tut, tut, once again!!

Adam, if you must nick something why not read the label first to see what it is?

Oh! Dear Adam.
Consider your self well and truly told off, I will expect you will think again from taking cuttings from these places LOL but I think if they knew and what you did for a living and you asked them they would be obliging. Jackie x

Surely everybody has done it at some time I know I have.

Smacked wrist, Adam. Join the club but just learn not to say that you nicked it. It fell off and was lying on the path, right!

but ten out of ten for honesty...

Sorry if this has caused offence. But surely one cutting would not hurt. And to Volunteer- no 'nicked bits' died in myhandbag because: a)I don't have one and b) the only part i took is what you see growing in the photo. But thanks to everyone for their input and no hard feelings! :)

Tulsalady - I can honestly say, hand on heart, I have NEVER taken an unofficial cutting from soneone else's garden. If I wanted the plant, and no-one was available to ask for a piece, I would take a photo, identify it when I got home and then bought one for myself.

Adam - I'm sorry but the idea that 'just one cutting won't hurt' doesn't apply - if every person who visited the garden took 'just one cutting', how much of the garden would be left by the end of the year?

I'd like to know if the name I suggested could be it, though, Adam, can you check it out, look at a pic or something and see if it resembles the original plant you got the cutting from?

I agree with volunteer and Andrewr Do you want to have signs in gardens saying do not pinch the cuttings the same goes for wild flowers How many times do you hear I only took one!!
