Nowt we let our garden get on with it... if has been covered in leaves and detritus over the winter.

Rather like Moon, I use very little. The trees do their thing and if there is a better topping for the soil, then I have yet to find it.
I used to buy bags of spent mushroom compost for my old garden, but stopped when I developed the feeling that - In the wild, plants just get on with it.

Kind of a mix. Near the house and front garden will get fresh bark mulch. The bottom part of the garden has been getting lawn clippings and straw. Rest is also left to get on with it! I also have some coir that I want to use as a mulch at some point over spring.

.Mine got a good mulch with home made compost, before winter set in,only around susceptible plants such as hardy Fuchsias, etc, mainly to protect them..Shrubs and other things are left to their own devices..a sprinkling of Blood ,fish and bone to some, mainly Roses will be added in spring..they were all given a decent start to begin with,at planting time,so the soil is already in good condition..some things don't like an over rich soil,so they are left untreated...a light dig over to tidy up,is all that is needed, and to get rid of any weeds appearing..

If I put anything on my garden the local cats think its wonderful and use it as a public convenience so I don't bother.

Like most people, I don't bother. I have a 'jungle' (according to one of my blogs that is a 'bungle') garden. To do this properly requires the strategic application of a shoe-horn when planting. The plants then keep each other frost, in winter, and weed, in summer, free.

In the spring I only tend to mulch newly plantings, later I will have leaf mould and home made compost to put round the garden.

Nothing this year - the ground's so wet, I want it to dry out some.

I purchased that 'lion roar' mulch which was meant to keep cats away, Lol, they rolled in it, messed in it and invited their friends round too!! Never again. Like Cammomile, I dont bother with anything now, except to dress tender plants before winter with spent multi-purpose or anything I have to hand.
