One advert I've seen has the magnolia sieboldii growing in a pot, ah I thought just what I want, but would I be killing it off? Has anyone done it?

Previous question
I had a magnolia 'susan' in a large pot for about 10 yrs. after 6 it stopped flowering and 4 yrs on i finally planted it into the garden. hoping it will start flowering again.
as long as the pot is big enough and you water and feed it there shouldnt be a problem.
