Hi, I've promised my friend some plug plants for her garden, my problem is how do you post. We used to swap plants regularly when we lived close, but now I'm in Shropshire and shes in Cornwall. We have always grown plants from seeds which we have really enjoyed over the years, we regularly send photos of plants to one another and now our idea is to swap afew again, any ideas how to get the plants there safely.

250 ml old olive oil plastic bottles(cut to size/height) are quite snug for plugs, same as spritz says always wrap wet paper towel round roots and seal with cling film, bubblewrap the outer and box/tube..depending on how many your posting at once.Dont post on a fri incase they are stuck in transit over the weekend :O) x

Damp paper towel round roots, then placed inside of empty kitchen/toilet roll tube then posted using padded envelope :) Different ideas but they all seem to work Dian.

Agree with all the above, all good ideas.
I would only add that come May, Cornwall is a wonderful place to be; Therefore, a good time to visit friend. :)

if you have many plants you might find it cheaper to just hop on the bus with them!

Thanks for all your help. Don't think it would be cheaper to hop on a bus BH its 289 mile to Penzance Cornwall from where I live now.

I use soft drink waxed containers with the top cut open, wrap the rootballs in damp kitchen paper and clingfilm, then pack the plants in the container with more kitchen paper padding the spaces so the plants don't move around. The container is easy to wrap in brown paper.
Hope that helps!
