My Granny always gave her house plants the left over tea from the tea pot. I was wondering if anyone knows if that was a good thing to do or not. Curious, her plants did fantastically. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi I still do give my house plants cold tea. there will be some minerals in the water and the plants dont seem to mind. I should do a control teat to find out if it does make a difference.

I always give my plants the left over tea. It's full of potassium, and that's good for making them flower :o)

I think it is an urban myth. Used coffee is good for plants as it has something to biodegrade but your tea out of a cup is just liquid tea with only trace amounts of nutrients. The tannin build up cannot be good for plant roots and mst rob it of nitrogen. Perhaps the old tea of yore when you had tea leaves might have been good but not the modern tea bag.

Make sure that it is cold first! It probably doesn't do any good, but it sounds fun.

My hubby only uses tea leaves and likes it very strong, its also made in his mug, no tea strainer allowed YUK!!!! I do know that over the years its helped break up my clay areas, so in that sense its good as well, in one of my gardening books it says to add to compost when sowing seeds as it helps prevent the green forming on the surface of the trays, never have found whether that works though as I always forget to try it..

I should try a control group. Would make for an interesting experiment, maybe next Winter!
