you shouldn't bury the graft union on fruit trees

If your apple is in a pot, that is the depth to plant in the ground. or, if it is bare rooted, you will see a mark on the stem which is the "nursery mark" where it has been planted at the nursery, this mark should be level with the soil; as Pam has already said, the graft union should be above ground....
