Thank you Doctorbob 1 I will have a go at replanting them, but as they are so heavy because they have so much foliage should I cut them back to bare twigs to enable me to replant?

I would get some help. To replant them as they are, cut back late any poor growth say April/May, Plant a little deeper to avoid the same thing happening again. Shape your bushes in September, don't just clip them. I recommend feeding with Tomarite and Epson salts June to September.
