I have Escallonia Iveyi hedging which appears to have lost most of its green leaves... and it looks 'see through', also the branches have a 'green residue' on them, any idea whats wrong ?

Escallonias do lose a lot of leaves at this time of year - they will probably regrow very soon. The green residue will be simply a result of all the wet weather we have had and is nothing to worry about.
